Basic Facts Hurricane Katrina

Partiti politici

Responds Diego Binetti, a member of the party Lega Nord Trentino.

semi-structured interview carried out by telephone on 01/12/2008.

Q: You and His political group are you in favor or against the rehabilitation of brown bears in Trentino? Why?

R: The position of my group on the draft Life Ursus is, given what is happening, definitely negative. The reasons that lead us to that consideration is given mainly on grounds of public safety (cites incidents of encounters) and by economic considerations (too much weight on the budget of the Autonomous Province of Trento).
The province has paid for the project € 1,200,000, and the annual cost, is around € 600,000

Q: What role or what position the party took League North in the political debate that has arisen in connection with the proposed Life Ursus?

R : Already in the last two terms of the Northern League moved consulting with the provincial government with repeated questions particularly those conducted by Councilor Erminio Boso. We are currently involved in collecting signatures to support a suspension of the ongoing project. As in the Pyrenees has been activated a similar project of reintegration, the bears could be moved to this area. The League is strictly against the killing of bears in the area after the resettlement.

Q: Do you think that kind of idea Trentini have about this type of animal?

D: Ritiene che la presenza dell’orso in Trentino possa in qualche modo avere delle ripercussioni (in positivo or negative) on the provincial tourism sector?

A: I do not think are no positive impact on the tourism plan. Many seem to fear the presence of the animal and are frightened by the real possibility of close encounters in the area.

Q: The project has been underway for some time. Believes that the initiative of resettlement has been conducted and managed a positive or, is of the opinion however that the project is rather to be reviewed?

R: Apart from the success that the project may have had a purely scientific point of view, the environment, in our opinion is just that consequently also be revised in the light of what happened in neighboring countries such as Bavaria.

Responds Roberto bombed Provincial Council of the Greens and Democrats of Trentino

semi-structured interview carried out by e-mail dated 26/11/2008

Q: You and your group are you in favor or against the political reintegration of brown bears in Trentino? Why?

R: The Greens have always been promoting the protection of biodiversity and wildlife also including large predators. Were among the biggest supporters since the beginning of the project-Life Ursus. The Greens - and I with them - believe that the process of re-introduction of the brown bear will help to restore a status that characterized the nature of the Alps for millennia. The bear came over the Alps before man and man coexisted, despite undeniable conflict situations, for many centuries. Always bear is the soul of the mountains and forests and their presence enriches the whole ecosystem.

Q: What role or position that had the Green Party of Trentino in the political debate that has arisen in connection with the proposed Life Ursus?

R: E 'role was mainly to promote and defend against attacks of the draft, its creators, but also the animal.

Q: Do you think that kind of idea Trentini have about this type of animal? Prevails in your view, a negative or positive view about its presence in the area?

R: I think there is still much ignorance, ride to art by some people and certain political forces. Fear of plantigrade is directly proportional to the degree of ignorance on the animal, its behavior, the actual risks. The bear is much less dangerous than other wild animals, although his size can undoubtedly impress people more susceptible. I think that is widely prevalent in urban areas as a favor to the animal, in the valleys is rather the opposite: here the animal is much closer, with the "appearances" but also with the damage it causes and its terrors. E 'therefore understandable that we must work much harder at valligiano to know the bear, but also to protect private property (real estate but also crude) and to limit, with appropriate actions, behaviors, so-called "bulky" of bear '(when, for example, is too confidential with regard to settlements, iniznaod to rummage in garbage cans, demolishing fences stables or other pets, etc.)..

Q: 'To know the number of brown bears in the territory that is now?

R: Yes, I'm twenty. Among those would be imported and those born more than thirty, but now someone has understandably gone beyond provincial borders (which can not, obviously, to know) to be placed in the regions and neighboring countries.

Q: Do you think that the presence of bears in Trentino can somehow have an impact (positive or negative) on the provincial tourism sector?

A: From a strictly scientific point of view, the project was a huge success of international importance. Merit also of the people who have been engaged in various activities in recent years. From now on, I think we should focus our attention towards a greater knowledge and understanding of the animal and its behavior on the part of local public opinion, trying to prevent or promptly isolate cases of damage or behavior of the animal is too confidential to persons or property.

Meets Nerio Giovannazzi : Provincial Councillor Administer the Trentino

semi-structured interview carried out face to face on 15/12/2008

Q: You and your group are you in favor or against the political reintegration of brown bears in Trentino? Why?

R: personally am not opposed to the project itself, but the approach that has been given. You can talk about how Life Ursus now a real business. The introduction of the specimens had to be where the bear was present historically avoided and that the animals become familiar with the urban centers.
Having said the settlement in the populated areas has meant that the population of the puppies had then the same behavior of their parents. This naturally leads to discomfort from both a social and economic point of view. Socially
now is in fact a widespread psychosis of the bear. Many people facing fear leaving the area. In fact, there has been in a sense a kind of limitation of human freedom, especially among older people living in suburbs has created a hardship which adds further to those they already face. Economically
damage has occurred to the raw, demolition of apiaries and extensive damage to crops. E 'was set a table for compensation, but this is not an effective solution since, when such damage occurs, you automatically cut off the mechanism that allows a continuous supply of "product" and therefore an interruption of economic relations between consumer and seller. This problem is unfortunately not clear enough from trade associations that are related to political power too provincial, but instead fully reflected the uneasiness between the individual with whom they are in contact. It 'just through constant contact with these people that you can realize the true intensity of the problem.

Q: What role or position that has been in the political debate that has arisen in connection with the proposed Life Ursus?

A: Question Politically I spoke through the county which is a significant silence followed by the leadership of the province.
drifting I also worked directly in the territory promoting a petition. Unlike the Northern League, but I have not wanted to use the theme useful for gaining consensus in the election campaign, but we preferred to move to avoid media hype. Despite the absence of advertising and not always cooperative action of local realities, we have collected between 6000 and 7000 signatures against the project. Today, however, because of the elections and change of the provincial government, the petition is pending.
should be noted that in our website (www.neriogiovannazzi.it nda) was also a poll on the suspension of the project Life Ursus.

Q: 'To know the number of brown bears in the territory that is now?

R: It 'hard to say and really no one, not even the authorities are really aware of. They say, however, are more than forty.

Q: Do you think that kind of idea Trentini have about this type of animal? Prevails in your view, a negative or positive view about its presence in the area?

R: the Trentini are a race much less scrutabile bears and their behaviors are often due to convenience. Around the area I have proof of how out of large cities, the majority does not agree with such a project managed and many are in favor capture. It can not be talking about the bear problem in Trento, because the animal does not travel through the city center and certainly no one will ever see in Piazza Dante, however, is the edge that needs to be heard more. In fact the inhabitants of the valleys of the people involved in the presence of bears in the area.

Q: Do you think that the presence of bears in Trentino can somehow have an impact (positive or negative) the provincial tourism sector?

R: On a possible impact of the project open to the public has no reliable data. Surely there will be those who will be fascinated by the presence of the animal, but instead many are afraid. If there was a discreet presence of the animal, then you proceed to the first capture of bears that are too close to residential areas and succussivamente placed back to their areas of origin, would be more room for specimens that have failed to settle in areas not populated . In this way, the puppies will put it in an interesting way and not worrying in the Trentino region.

Q: The project was initiated by some time. Believes that the initiative of resettlement has been conducted and managed a positive or, is of the opinion however that the project is rather to be reviewed?

R: I already answered your question. The project managed so it does not work, so drastic action is required. The Province has issued the erroneous idea of \u200b\u200ba territory where the protection of biodiversity and the environment, but this is not true at all. Our landfills are almost empty, also think of the recent scandal where they were brought Martes toxic waste from northern Italy. Furthermore, we do not have incinerators or an incinerator, consequently have no real environmental policy.
